Rob Costantino is managing editor of Santé, the Magazine for Restaurant Professionals, a position he has held since the magazine’s inaugural issue, Nov/Dec 1996. He was invited to become involved in a new magazine devoted to restaurant wine and spirits management by Editor and Publisher Mark Vaughan and Creative Director and Publisher Chris Costello. The three have been responsible for the editorial content and the “look” of the magazine from its onset.
Since its inception, Santé has developed and expanded to cover food and kitchen management. With the growth of the magazine, Costantino’s role has evolved to include developing an editorial calendar; assigning stories to the growing family of nationally acclaimed restaurateurs, chefs, and beverage directors; editing all wine and spirits-related articles, columns, and reviews; reviewing wines and spirits; supervising the editorial staff; and writing feature wine and spirits articles for each issue. In addition, he has contributed to editing two books published by On-Premise Communications, Inc., Santé’s parent company and to the development and execution of the magazine’s annual professional conferences: the Santé Restaurant Awards and the Santé Restaurant Symposium.
He has traveled to Australia, Europe, South America, and the US West Coast to research wine stories; moderated panels for the Washington, DC-based Society of Wine Educators, and judged domestic wine and spirits competitions. Costantino is a member of a number of professional groups, including the Society of Wine Educators and the American Institute of Wine and Food.
